J. Stewart Bryan III was elected chairman, president and chief executive of Media General Inc. Bryan, 52, will succeed his father, D. Tennant Bryan, 83, as chairman and replaces James S. Evans as president and CEO on July 1. The senior Bryan and Evans will remain directors, and Bryan was elected chairman of the executive committee. Evans was elected vice chairman. Media General owns the Richmond (Va.) Times-Dispatch and the Richmond News Leader, the Tampa Tribune and the Winston-Salem Journal, several television stations and cable-television franchises, as well as other newspaper and printing holdings.
