‘Dr. Welsing is the first scientist to psychoanalyze white racism. . . .’

Regarding the reaction to the April 29 Pop Eye column about the Cress Theory booklet being included in the record album “Fear of a Black Planet,” by the Public Enemy rap group:

If the May 6 letters to Calendar were an accurate reflection of mass opinion, many white people failed to grasp the thrust of Dr. Frances Cress Welsing’s theory. She holds that the only longstanding, global pattern of race-conscious behavior (in contrast to personal or group prejudices) is white supremacy.

She believes this phenomenon--based on pigment envy and the fear of genetic annihilation--reached its apex during the 20th Century when color-conscious Europeans became keenly aware of their minority status in an overwhelmingly nonwhite world.

Throughout the history of Western psychiatry, Dr. Welsing is the first scientist to psychoanalyze white racism. All of her predecessors have focused on the nonwhite victims of this ancient and entrenched practice.
