Suit Filed Over L-Tryptophan: A product liability suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday claims that the Japanese makers of the food supplement L-Tryptophan failed to recall a shipment of pills even though they knew that it was chemically contaminated by inadequate fermentation during manufacturing. The case was brought by Robert Stanton, who claims that he was unable to walk after taking the supplement in 1989. The case seeks unstated damages from the manufacturer, Showa Denko, as well as Thrifty Drug & Discount Stores, Sav-On/Osco, Miller’s Pharmacy and Major Ultra, which packages the product into capsules.
