A single-engine airplane carrying six people crashed in flames just after takeoff from the Capital City airport here today with no apparent survivors, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

A spokesman said the charred remains of six victims were recovered from the site. None was identified pending notification of relatives, but a spokesman said they included a state government aide and workers from an engineering firm.

The plane, described as an out-of-state charter, crashed after its engine failed 300 yards from the runway shortly after 10 a.m., according to eyewitnesses and airport spokesmen.
