Abbott, Eichhorn Win Angel Honor
Pitcher Jim Abbott, who made two starts in three days, and reliever Mark Eichhorn, who earned two saves against his former Toronto teammates, have been named co-Angels of the Week by The Times’ Orange County Edition.
Starting on a few hours’ notice Friday after Chuck Finley sprained his ankle, Abbott pitched 6 2/3 innings to gain credit for the Angels’ 4-2 victory. He had been knocked out of his previous start, Wednesday at Milwaukee.
Eichhorn made four appearances in five days and converted two save opportunities, increasing his team-leading save total to seven.
A check for $250 in Abbott’s and Eichhorn’s names will be given to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Orange County.
