Chinese Hewlett-Packard Workers Defect: At least seven Hewlett-Packard Co. employees in China have defected during business trips to the United States in the 11 months since the crackdown in Tian An Men Square, the company said. In most cases, they disappeared with the help of family or friends after their arrival in California from Beijing and Shanghai. The company said it had no idea whether the workers have sought political asylum or are merely staying in the United States illegally.
