Albertson’s Inc.: The Boise, Idaho, supermarket chain reported that first-quarter earnings jumped 15.4% over the previous year to $51.2 million on record sales of $2 billion, up 11% from 1989. The surge was due largely to cost efficiencies realized from new distribution centers in Sacramento, Portland, Ore., and Ft. Worth, the company said.
