Two men who held a husband and wife at gunpoint Thursday were captured by police after the wife called 911 while the suspects were in another room looting the apartment, authorities said.

The incident began about 1 p.m. at an apartment complex on 1555 Mesa Verde East when the two men entered the home of Ernesto Ramos, 26, and his wife, Irma Abalos, 23, Police Lt. Tom Warnack said.

The men, armed with handguns, left Abalos unattended as they looked for valuables, Warnack said.

“The wife was able to call 911 when the suspects were looking around the place,” he said.

Police surrounded the complex and apprehended one of the suspects as the pair left the building. The other suspect was captured about 45 minutes later hiding in a bush.

The suspects, identified as Peter Immanual Hernandez, 20, of Fullerton and Frank Garcia, 34, address unknown, were arrested on suspicion of armed robbery, Warnack said. They were taken to Costa Mesa Jail and held in lieu of $25,000 bail each, he said.

No one was injured in the incident, and no property was lost, police said.
