SCHOOL LAYOFFS: Some teachers, nurses, and school police officers may find themselves out of work after Tuesday night when the Compton school board introduces a budget that contains deep cuts to make up for a $9-million shortfall.
DECISION: The city Library Commission is supposed to decide the fate of the Washington Irving Library at a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Holman Methodist Church.
YOUNG PEOPLE: The first annual self-esteem rally and workshop sponsored by Young People for Young People will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the 93rd Street School. The free event is for children ages 8 to 12 and is limited to 300 children.
