‘Gotta Nickel?’ Begs Questions

Share

It’s good to know that 70% of the passers-by treated the psychologist disguised as a beggar with some respect, but I think it’s sad that only 4% gave him any money. Would the rate of compassion be different if Butterworth were black, old or a woman? It would be interesting to see if there is a difference in the way passers-by treat beggars of different ages, races and sexes.

Every time I give a beggar some money, he always says, “God bless you.” I say, “God bless you, too.” If we truly all loved one another, a beggar probably wouldn’t have to beg at all. Let’s learn from Butterworth’s experience and show more love toward our fellow man.
