Sen. Pete Wilson

Share

I am sorry that Pete Wilson has decided to run for the office of governor. My feeling is that he has been forced into taking up this fight by the hierarchy of the Republican Party.

I worked very hard to elect Pete Wilson to the U.S. Senate. I believe that he has done a very good job as the junior senator from California. The chances are that our senior senator will not run and if he does, he will probably be defeated. This would elevate Wilson to be the senior senator.

It would be a mistake to take Wilson away from the Senate. He got elected on the basis that he would complete his term. He knows his way around and has made very important contacts and can be more beneficial to California as a senator.

California will do just fine with a Democratic governor, just as we survived the Administration of Ronald Reagan. On the other hand, it will take many generations to undo the damage to the United States caused by the Reagan Administration. We will be lucky if we can thwart national insolvency. Let’s keep Pete Wilson in Washington to bring us a sense of fiscal and environmental responsibility for all America. We should keep him in a position where he can do the most for our nation; that place is not tucked away in Sacramento but in Washington. NORMAN E. MANN
