From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A judge refused to overturn John M. Poindexter’s five felony convictions arising out of the Iran-Contra affair, ruling that the national security adviser to former President Ronald Reagan had presented a weak defense against strong evidence. “A review of this evidence reveals that proof of defendant’s guilt of the charges is compelling,” U.S. District Judge Harold H. Greene said of the conspiracy, obstruction of Congress and false statement convictions that were returned April 7 by the jury in the case. Poindexter is scheduled to be sentenced June 11.
