Misandrosy and Mills College Students’ Battle to Bar Men

The column by Arnold reveals his deep misunderstanding of the philosophy of women’s colleges. It may be news to those who share his prejudices (the “ultra-feminsits” vs. “a few teen-age boys”?) but women do not choose to be educated at a women’s college because they hate men. How sadly mistaken Arnold is to assume this. As long as the world continues to be male-oriented women need the option to develop their strengths in a community of women.

I recently graduated from a such a place, and what I learned there about myself as a woman in society is invaluable to me. Incidentally, there were a few non-matriculated male students on campus; they were warmly received.

I find it ironic that a member of a religious society that refuses to ordain women should be so aggrieved by a group of women who wish their college to remain single-sex.
