Whether your child wishes to stretch for her toes or the stars, gymnastics programs in North County meet diverse needs. These are some of the programs available:

California Gold Gymnastics, 530 State Place, Escondido.

Formerly the Escondido Gymnastics Club. Offers one of the most competitive programs in the county. For girls only. Co-owned by Bernie and Diane Weston. Eight coaches for 250 gymnasts, preschool through high school age. Cost determined by number of classes attended each month, starting at $33 a month for a weekly one-hour class for beginners, and up to $112 for seven hours a week for United States Gymnastics Federation competition levels 6-8. California Sports and Fitness/West Coast Gymnastics, 1350 Grand Ave., San Marcos. Full-service health club offering novice to advanced gymnastics classes for girls and boys. It is the only club in San Diego offering USGF competition for boys. Classes open children 15-months-old through high school. Owned by Glenn and Sue Wilson. Susan Wilson was sports manager for gymnastics at the Los Angeles Olympics. Summer sports camps available. Call 744-8390.

Encinitas Dance and Gymnastics Center, 152 N. El Camino Real, Encinitas. Offers a non-competitive gymnastics experience for ages 3 through adult, male and female. Owner and director Joanne O’Dea also offers small and semi-private class instruction for girls preparing for competition. Call 942-3943.

Fallbrook Gymnastics Club, 919 S. Mission Road, Fallbrook.

Classes for ages 1 to adult. Girls can select among non-competitive pre-beginning to advanced levels; also USGF competition. Beginning and intermediate classes available for boys, with some in-house competition. Club size about 300. Owned by Dean and Debbie Kapelotti. Cost for all classes: $26 a month for a weekly one-hour class; $45 for twice-a-week classes; $55, three times a week. Call 723-1345.

Gyminny Kids, 11655 Duenda Road, Suite E, Rancho Bernardo.

Offers non-competitive, beginning through advanced classes for boys and girls, 18-months-old through adult. Some competition available, but primarily a teaching facility with 140 classes a week. Rhythmic gymnastics, cheerleading also offered. Club size about 800. Owned by Liz Mullarkey and her husband, Rob Bryson. Call 451-0204.

Sea Wind Gymnastics, 2028 Oceanside Blvd., Oceanside. Open to boys and girls. Offers tiny tumblers for 3- and 4-year olds; beginning, advanced beginning, intermediate and advanced classes for others. Ballet classes and team competition for levels 5-10. Club size about 200. Open workouts on Saturdays. Owned and directed by Ellen Morelli. Call 722-4967.

The Gym Mobile. Erich’s Mobile Gym, Gym Stars and TLC Gymnastics offer mobile gymnastics program once a week. Equipped vans take classes to preschools throughout the county. Call 744-4480.
