Royce Y. Peng, a senior at Rolling Hills High School, is a top winner in the 19th USA Mathematical Olympiad. He will be among seven students honored during an awards ceremony Wednesday at the National Academy of Sciences. They won from a pool of nearly 400,000 students in a national three-stage competition over the last three months. Peng is eligible to compete with a select group of 24 students for six positions on the International Mathematical Olympiad U.S. team. The 24 students will prepare for the final selections during four weeks of intensive training at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis from June 7 to July 6. A team will then be selected to represent the United States in Beijing on July 8 and 9. Peng, 17, is the son of Dr. Shi-Kaung and Shu-Tzu Peng of Rancho Palos Verdes.
