Young Actors Help Award Safe, Sober Honors to Schools

Winners of College Hospital’s 4th annual Safe and Sober Awards were announced recently at a luncheon hosted by Will Gotay of the movie “Stand and Deliver,” Marisa Ryan of the TV show “Major Dad” and Darius McCrary of the TV series “Family Matters.” Assemblyman Bob Epple made presentations to the winning schools.

Downey High School won first prize and $1,000 for an effort that included an anti-drug week, dances, a safe-rides program and formation of a new club on campus, “Student Athletes Detest Drugs.”

La Serna High School of Whittier won second prize and $750. Warren High School of Downey took third prize and $500. All participating schools received a $100 honorarium.
