President Bush Renews China’s Favored-Nation Trading Status

I must be very dense. I simply do not understand why President Bush would give favored-nation status to China and deny such aid to Russia.
It seems very clear to me that it would be to our advantage to have President Gorbachev’s attempt at economic reform succeed. A fiscally sound Russia would be a peaceful Russia. And we could stop making war machines and start spending our money on human services which are so badly needed.
Could it be that the many, many millions of prospective Chinese consumers are far more seductive to our greedy business community than the Russian people who are the current have-nots of the world? Of course it could be. Of course it is. I have answered my own question.
