Cornelson Sets Record in 24-Hour Cycling

David Cornelson of Huntington Beach, a 38-year-old paraplegic, broke a national record for a time-trial race by using an arm-powered, three-wheel bike to log 236.9 miles in 24 hours at the Bud Light Challenge bicycle race Sunday.

Cornelson, who easily broke the record of 178 miles, placed 47th overall against 82 non-handicapped cyclists.

Alex Bekkerman of New York, 36, pedalled 463.3 miles between noon Saturday and noon Sunday, breaking the old course mark of 436.1 miles.
