NATION IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : College Graduation Rates Sought in Bill
The House voted to require colleges and universities that receive federal funds to provide yearly statistics on their graduation rates and campus crime. The Senate has approved a different version. The schools would have to report to the Education Department their overall graduation rates, student-athlete graduation rates, campus crime statistics and other information. The bill also would direct the secretary of education and higher education leaders to develop other measurements of college and university performance, such as how many graduates of “occupationally specific” degree programs find jobs in their fields of study.
