Aerosmith Wins Rock Artist of the Year

Aerosmith, the hard-driving rock band, was named artist of the year Wednesday at the second annual International Rock Awards.

Tom Petty’s “Full Moon Fever” was named album of the year, while Don Henley was honored as songwriter of the year. Guitarist Eric Clapton was honored as living legend of the year. Newcomer of the year was Alannah Myles.

The Rolling Stones “Steel Wheels” tour was named tour of the year and their pay-per-view “Rolling Stones and Friends” the media event of the year.

Most valuable player awards were presented to Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and solo artist Bonnie Raitt.

Other MVP awards were presented to Clapton for guitar; Nathan East of Clapton’s band for bass guitar; Billy Joel for keyboards and Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones for drums.

The winners were selected by 100 representatives from the rock music industry.
