Temple City : Housing Moratorium OKd

Share

The City Council on Tuesday approved a 45-day moratorium scaling back the number of housing units developers may build on lots zoned for multiple-unit dwellings.

The council voted 4 to 1 to approve the measure. Mayor Thomas Breazeal cast the dissenting vote.

The ordinance reduces the number of units that may be constructed in medium-density zones from 12 to eight per acre, and in high-density zones from 18 to 10 per acre. The measure, however, would allow developers to build at least two units on any medium-density lot of at least 7,200 square feet, and at least three units on any high-density lot of at least 10,000 square feet.

More than a dozen audience members addressed the issue, most opposing the moratorium.
