James W. Jackson Jr., 66, writer-producer for the old PBS series “Lowell Thomas Remembers.” In the mid-1970s, he was instrumental in helping the University of South Carolina get 20th Century Fox’s Movietone news library, valued at up to $100 million. The library has footage from newsreels shown in theaters from 1919 to 1963. Jackson was director of the college’s news film library from 1980, when the newsreels were obtained, until he retired in 1988. During the 1970s he produced and wrote for the acclaimed “Lowell Thomas Remembers.” During World War II, Jackson was an Army pilot and worked as an education officer in the Korean War. On Tuesday near Winnsboro, S.C., of injuries sustained in a car crash.
