Chet Lakhani has been named vice president, information services for AST Research Inc., an Irvine computer manufacturer.

He was previously with Toshiba America Inc., where he was responsible for strategic planning and establishing new business units and manufacturing facilities in the U.S. Lakhani also has been chief information officer and director of corporate development at Smith International Inc.

He has also worked previously as senior director of information services for Flying Tiger Lines of Los Angeles.
