Asbestos Fund Seeks Ways to Ease Shortfall: The trust fund created in Manville Corp.’s bankruptcy to compensate victims of asbestos-related diseases said it is exploring alternatives to ease a cash shortage that could delay some payments until the 21st Century. John C. Sawhill, chairman of the Manville Personal Injury Settlement Trust, issued a statement that the trust wants “to quickly resolve the current legal issues and return (its) attention to settling claims.” The statement did not specify alternatives being examined by the trust.
