Police arrested four youths in what they said was a major breakthrough in a monthlong investigation into the desecration of a Jewish cemetery in the southern French town of Carpentras. The four are from well-off families and apparently belong to a band that regularly met at the cemetery to get drunk, police said. On May 10, 34 tombstones were vandalized in an incident that shocked France. In Jerusalem, five Palestinians were detained for questioning in the weekend desecration of 80 graves in Mount of Olives cemetery.
