‘Sham Recycler’ Sued: In a landmark environmental lawsuit, the U.S. government accused a Louisiana company Thursday of posing as a “recycler” to avoid stringent controls on its toxic waste burning operation--the largest in the country. The complaint seeks penalties of up to $25,000 a day against Marine Shale Processors of Amelia, La. The firm allegedly operated as a “sham recycler” to circumvent tough emission limits and other environmental controls imposed on toxic waste incinerators.
