Thank God for Maria VanderKolk and the Save Open Space activists for reminding complacent Ventura County voters of our democratic traditions. Thanks also to those who cared enough to vote on election day.
To defeated Supervisor Madge L. Schaefer, for arrogance in office and her condescending campaign comments about her opponent, this year’s nomination for the Evita (“Don’t cry for me, Argentina”) Peron award.
Finally, to the local reporters and their editors for failing to see the emergence of environmental issues as critical political factors in Ventura County, the Three Blind Mice award.
