Stoning Clay

In Patrick Goldstein’s recent five-page attempt to soften Andrew Dice Clay’s image (“In Search of the Real Andrew Dice Clay,” June 3), my name was added to a list of celebrities who “can’t stand the guy.”

To imply that I have any emotions invested in Silverstein (Clay’s real last name), one way or another, is a wrong assumption. It is his audience that I can’t stand. They do not come to his shows to laugh at the parody of this character. They come to celebrate the character’s hatred towards women and anyone else who isn’t a straight white male. Silverstein chooses to contribute to his audience’s stupidity in order to gain fame and recognition.

In a nation where rape and hate crimes are at an all-time high, Silverstein and his promoters are merely marketing the rot that lies in the hearts of millions of Americans. The Archie Bunker character was the brunt of the humor on “All in the Family.” The Dice Clay character has become a celebrated hero.
