Toe-to-Toe Competition: Two major ballet competitions get under way this week. Dancers from 16 countries made last-minute preparations over the weekend for the third New York International Ballet Competition at Lincoln Center, one of the most prestigious showcases for young talent in the world. In Jackson, Miss., ballet dancers from 23 countries began battling Sunday at the International Ballet Competition. About 100 men and women dancers, most members of recognized ballet companies recommended by their directors, were scheduled to compete.
