WORLD : Dutch Seize 2nd IRA Escapee
Police today arrested a man wearing handcuffs and said he is a suspected Irish Republican Army member who escaped from Belgian authorities.
Police in Belgium had apprehended three people Saturday and seized a car containing two handguns, an automatic rifle, ammunition and explosives.
But two of those arrested and handcuffed escaped and fled to the Netherlands. Police said they arrested one of the suspects several hours later near the Dutch town of Ulvenhout.
The second escapee was arrested today after a tip by residents, national police spokesman Stephan Worm said. Worm said the suspect was still wearing handcuffs.
Neither of the men being held by Dutch police have been identified. Belgian police said the third suspect is a woman, and they identified her as Donna Maguire, 23, of Newry, Northern Ireland.
