World IN BRIEF : PHILIPPINES : Communist Rebels Kill 7 in Ambush

Communist guerrillas ambushed a jeep carrying government troops in a remote village on Negros island in the central Philippines, killing seven people, the military said. Two police officers, two militiamen and three civilians were slain when 35 New People’s Army guerrillas shot at the jeep from a sugar cane field near Canayan, 340 miles southeast of Manila, the military reported.
