WORLD IN BRIEF : TURKEY : Soviet Pilot Steals Plane, Seeks Asylum

A Soviet pilot stole a small plane in the Ukrainian city of Izmail and flew it to a Black Sea beach in northwestern Turkey, where he landed and asked for asylum, officials said. The pilot was identified as Valeri Yurevic, 29, a former commercial aviator. The Soviet news agency Tass said Yurevic had resigned from Aeroflot.
