TRACY: Chester Gould was not as straight an arrow as his cartoon creation, Dick Tracy (F1), says old pal Ferd Johnson of Newport Beach. . . . Johnson, who now draws “Moon Mullins,” recalls that “Chet made the best home brew of anybody in Chicago” and was a poker fanatic. . . . Johnson recalls that he, Gould and other young cartoonists at the Chicago Tribune--including Harold Gray, creator of “Little Orphan Annie”--had so much fun shooting dice and throwing horseshoes that “I don’t know how we got any work done.”
