Kevin Hermening, once held hostage in Iran, is running for the state Legislature.

Hermening, who ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 1986 and 1988, said Monday that he will seek the GOP nomination to challenge state Rep. Brad Zweck, a Democrat, in the November election. Neither man has primary opposition.

Hermening, 30, of Mosinee in central Wisconsin, represents Wisconsin Independent Businesses Inc., a promotional and lobbying organization for small businesses.

He was a Marine guard at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran when Iranian militants overran the embassy on Nov. 4, 1979, and was one of the 52 Americans taken hostage and held until Jan. 20, 1981.
