Truck Guard Hits Robber With Bag of Cash, Foils Holdup
Gunmen demanded money from an armored truck guard, and he gave it to them: He swung a bag full of cash at a shotgun-wielding assailant to foil the robbery, police said.
The unidentified guard for the Illinois Armored Car Corp. was making a delivery Monday to a West Side currency exchange when a man wearing a mask pointed a shotgun at his chest, police Sgt. Barbara Matula said.
As two more gunmen appeared, the guard swung a bag filled with $18,000 in cash and coins at the would-be robber, knocking away his shotgun, Matula said. The guard jumped in the truck with his partner, and the two put their heads down as the gunmen fired three shots before fleeing, she said.
No cash was lost and no one was hurt.
