Ousted East German leader Erich Honecker denied today that he harbored leftist West German terrorists accused of killings and bombings in West Germany.

Nine reputed members of the violent Red Army Faction have been captured in East Germany since June 6.

Some of the suspects have told authorities they were given false names and sanctuary by the secret police of Honecker’s ousted regime.

“Nothing in these accusations corresponds to reality,” Honecker said in a statement released through the East German government news agency, ADN.

West German officials have long claimed that East Germany may have harbored or perhaps aided leftist terrorists. One West German politician last week demanded that Honecker and other former officials be extradited to West Germany to face charges.
