EAST MORICHES, N. Y. —
A police pilot flashed his helicopter’s white landing lights and alerted an oncoming commuter train to a disabled car in its path, Suffolk County police officials said.
The pilot was searching for suspects in a burglary Tuesday when a report of a car stuck on the tracks was dispatched. He flew to the site and saw both the car and a train approaching it.
The pilot hovered over the train and signaled the engineer by flashing his landing lights.
