West Hollywood : Plastic Food Packaging Ban

The City Council banned the use of food packaging that contains the non-biodegradable plastic polystyrene.

Sanctions will range from $100 to $500 in fines and the possible revocation of a violator’s business license.

Exemptions will include food items packaged outside the city or purchased through a contract entered before the effective date of the ban. One-year exemptions will be considered for distributors who cannot immediately meet the new standard because of “undue hardship.”
