Transient Trapped in Crawl Space Freed
A transient who had been trapped for three days in a crawl space under a Metro Rail platform in Long Beach was freed Sunday and was in good condition, authorities said.
Richard Mayes, 40, was rescued by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies about 4:30 a.m., after someone heard him banging at the Metro Rail station at 1st Street and Long Beach Boulevard, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
Mayes told his rescuers that he sought shelter Thursday in the crawl space--which is 100 feet long, 25 feet wide and only three feet high.
