A lakeside tram plunged out of control 120 feet down a hillside, hurling four passengers into the Lake of the Ozarks and breaking the neck of one of them, authorities said today.

The cause of the Sunday evening accident was still under investigation, the Missouri State Water Patrol said. All four Osage Beach residents aboard, ranging in age from 63 to 80, were injured.

The tram, which has operated less than six weeks, hoists passengers up and down a 45-degree incline from the lakeside to the Swiss Village Restaurant, near Osage Beach. It is operated by the restaurant.
