Democrats’ Campaign to Defeat 2 Redistricting Propositions

Share

Daniel Hays Lowenstein’s commentary “The Message That Voters Sent in Rejecting Props. 118 and 119” (Opinion, June 17) confirms once again that the left is incapable of telling the truth.

Props. 118 and 119 were designed to make redistricting fair and equitable to all by removing the fox, the Legislature, from guarding the hen house. The system we have now is far from being just and equitable when legislators are allowed by majority rule to dictate their own districts virtually guaranteeing a lifetime tenure in office.

Lowenstein does just as all good liberals do--he throws out scare-tactic rhetoric with no facts to justify his claims. It was not the Republicans that have stacked the deck by setting up safe districts through redistricting but the Democrats. In fact, Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) promised during the campaign that the current redistricting process would henceforth be more open and fairer which means that it wasn’t open and fair in the first place.

Lowenstein fails to ask the important questions such as are minorities better off today after many years of Democratic rule in our state government or is our country better off today after 17 years of abortion on demand? It is time we voters start checking the results and vote accordingly.
