Charles Barkley of the Philadelphia 76ers is expected to recover fully from arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder, but more damage was found than expected and Barkley’s rehabilitation time will be longer than anticipated.

Barkley had a bone spur removed from his right shoulder during the two-hour operation at HealthSouth Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala. The doctor also repaired some frayed and torn ligaments in the shoulder.

Team physician Jack McPhilemy said the torn ligament would add at least four weeks to Barkley’s six-week rehabilitation schedule.
