Compton : Budget Down $10.8 Million but No Layoffs Are Seen

Share

Despite having $10.8 million less to spend in the coming year, the City Council adopted a budget Tuesday night that did not require any layoffs.

Thirty-seven positions, however, are expected to be eliminated through attrition measures such as retirements, City Manager Howard Caldwell told the council.

The 1990-91 budget is $81.7 million, compared to this year’s budget of $92.5 million. The difference, which is equal to an expected drop in revenue for the city, is largely due to a reduction in proceeds from redevelopment bonds.
