WORLD : Cheney Pushes Back NATO Tour
ense Secretary Dick Cheney pushed back a scheduled two-week trip to European NATO countries so he can meet with President Bush in Maine on Monday to discuss next week’s NATO summit, the Pentagon said today.
“Instead of leaving this Saturday, the secretary will leave Monday evening for his visit to the southern flanks of NATO and Norway,” Pentagon spokesman Pete Williams said. “He will visit Norway, Greece, Turkey and Portugal.”
Cheney had planned to fly Saturday night from Washington to Spain to meet with government officials there before moving on to the other NATO countries.
But Bush’s decision to hold a briefing in Kennebunkport, Me., on the NATO summit, scheduled in London for July 5-6, forced a change in plans.
