New Role for Apple Unit: Claris Corp. will become a wholly owned, independent subsidiary of Apple Computer Inc., Apple announced. Claris, which develops and markets software for Apple’s popular Macintosh and Apple II computers, has been a majority-owned subsidiary of Apple since April, 2987, when it was spun off. It will remain independent and maintain separate facilities and personnel.
