Huge July 4 fireworks displays are being offered in a number of communities in the county. One of the most popular displays is the dawn (4:45 a.m.) display at the Santa Monica Pier. At most locations, the fireworks displays will be free, or the cost will be included in the admission price of the main event. City of Los Angeles

Angels Gate Park--Color guard ceremony followed by a team kite-flying demonstration and cultural art show; no fireworks; 10:30 a.m., 930 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.

Cabrillo Beach--Fireworks begin at dusk.

Cheviot Hills Recreation Center--”All American Games Day” including sack and relay races and a water-balloon toss; no fireworks; 11 a.m., 2551 Motor Ave.

Dodger Stadium--Fireworks follow Chicago Cubs game, which begins at 7:35.

Hollywood Bowl--”L.A. Philharmonic Presents Disney Spectacular With Fireworks,” 8 p.m.

Peck Park--Sack races, pie-eating contests, egg toss, one-legged race; no fireworks; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., 560 N. Western Ave., San Pedro.

Rustic Canyon Recreation Center--Children’s relays and parachute games, outdoor volleyball and ping pong; no fireworks; 11 a.m., 601 Latimer Road.

Venice Beach--Muscle contest; no fireworks; 11 a.m., Ocean Front Walk.

Westwood Recreation Complex--Basketball free-throws, soccer dribble, bubble-gum blowing and watermelon-eating contests; no fireworks; 11 a.m., 1350 Sepulveda Blvd.

West Wilshire Recreation Center--Arts and crafts, watermelon-eating contest and relay races; no fireworks; 10 a.m., 141 S. Gardner St.

Cities with asterisks ban individuals from using fireworks. Other cities where individual displays, including sparklers, are prohibited: Agoura Hills, Arcadia, Avalon, Beverly Hills, Bradbury, Covina, Hermosa Beach, Hidden Hills, La Canada Flintridge, La Habra Heights, Lomita, Los Angeles, Manhattan Beach, Monrovia, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, San Dimas, San Gabriel, Santa Monica, Sierra Madre, Signal Hill, Vernon, West Covina, West Hollywood and Westlake Village.
