Daimler-Benz to Build on Berlin Wall Site: West Berlin gave the go-ahead for West Germany’s biggest company, Daimler-Benz AG, to build offices on a Berlin Wall wasteland that was once the center of the city. The Potsdamer Platz site is now a rubble-strewn no-man’s land, even though the wall dividing it came down in November. “This is a signal for other investors. It’s very important for the city,” West Berlin Mayor Walter Momper told reporters after a joint council meeting in East Berlin’s town hall. The company plans to invest $450 million on the complex.
