French Businessman Buys Adidas: Flamboyant French businessman and soccer club owner Bernard Tapie bought control of Adidas, the West German sportswear manufacturing giant. Gerhard Ziener, president of Adidas’ supervisory board, said 80% of the share capital, owned by the heirs of company founder Adi Dassler, will be transferred to Bernard Tapie Finance S.A. of Paris. The company, with $2.8 billion in sales last year, is the largest sporting goods manufacturer in the world.
