Harold Hirsch; Founder of Ski Clothing Firm

Harold Hirsch, 82, a noted skier who founded the White Stag Manufacturing Co. which made ski clothing. Always interested in skiing, Hirsch took over a corner of his family’s Hirsch-Weis Co. factory in 1929 and began making clothing appropriate for skiing. His experiment grew into an important division of the business. Earlier this year, Hirsch was named to the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame. On Wednesday in Portland, Ore., of cancer.
