WESTMINSTER : $100,000 Allocated to House Homeless
Four homeless families may eventually find warm places to sleep after the Westminster Redevelopment Agency’s decision Tuesday night to grant $100,000 to purchase a four-unit apartment complex for the indigent.
The money will go to Shelter for the Homeless, a nonprofit organization that houses about 75 people throughout Orange County, said Jim Miller, executive director of the group.
Miller said the group plans to buy an apartment complex at 14282 Locust St. and house families there for up to four months.
The Redevelopment Agency voted to grant the money contingent upon the approval of a $250,000 state grant, which may come after Sept. 1.
“I’m excited that the city is giving us the opportunity to get the building. Without their cooperation, it’s hard for a nonprofit organization to get funding,” Miller said.
